Omar Pérez
At the age of 5 Omar Perez went to live with his grandmother in the town of San Miguel Tepezontes, a picturesque village in the province of La Paz (El Salvador). This area is surrounded by a green countryside filled with the aroma of fruit and a sense of freedom. After a time, he went to live in the city of New El Salvador with the internationally acclaimed artist, Fausto Pérez. This opportunity allowed Omar to study under Fausto and to develop his artistic talent.
At an early age, his rich artistic surroundings inspired him to experiment with a large range of colors. His first paintings were created in the primitive style known as pointillism. This produced a colorful and unique style that captivated many fans and collectors of art. His ingenuous style and the handling of popular everyday elements reflects not only the ecological beauty of his country, it also describes the life of the infinite "pueblos" in Cuscatlán. It describes its people, its customs and traditions, and its way of life. In his paintings we will the common "borrachito" drinking on the street corner, to recently washed clothes hanging out to dry, or the beauty of the countryside as seen through eyes of the artist.
Like all artists that have been inspired by the countryside, Omar has taken advantage of the proximity of lake Ilopango, one of the most important lakes in El Salvador. This lake appears repeatedly in his work, revealing the fantasy in his unique style. The contrasts of light and color of his paintings evoke not only El Salvador, but also the great Central American homeland. Omar's work does not require the viewer to have extensive knowledge of art to appreciate what he expresses in his paintings. They are like windows to the world of fantasy, filled with color and light.
Omar currently resides in the United States, where he continues to paint and exhibit. |
